All "elective" surgeries are performed in accordance with the moon signs at our ranch. B. R. Blagg, master farrier and one of the most knowledgeable horsemen I ever met, taught us how to read the Zodiac Chart decades ago. He said that you should only castrate when the moon signs were in the "thighs" going "down". If the signs were in the "heart" the animal would bleed like a stuck
pig! If the signs were right, you'd only see a couple of tablespoons full of blood. B. R. was the only person Ronny let castrate our horses because they never swelled up or bled much which meant it didn't take them long to heal either. B.R. always made a really long incision so the wound would drain and not swell.
Our knowledge of how the astrological table works is limited to a very vague understanding that there evidently is a correlation between the gravitational pull
of the moon and subsequent changes in barometric pressure. We really don't know why the moon signs seem to work, but after watching B. R. cut colts and having horses operated on by the moon signs, I would never have it any other way. Barometric changes caused by the gravitational pull during the moon phases evidently affect not only the tides, but the blood-flow in our own bodies.
B. R. challenged many veterinarians to try castrating on different dates, and inevitably, they all agreed
that horses bled less when cut on the moon signs, so we continue to use this method. The "thigh" sign is for Sagittarius or SAG; knee signs are Capricorn, or CAP; legs are Aquarius or AQU and feet are Pisces or PSC. Go to the monthly Zodiac calendar and look for SAG, followed by CAP and AQU. The signs are in the "thighs", going "down" the body from the "thighs" down through the "legs" and "knees" and into the "feet".
You can cut a colt on any of those days.
You never perform any operation while the signs are in the "heart" in Leo, or in when they're going "up" the body, from the feet "up" through the legs, knees etc., as indicated on the "Secrets of the Zodiac" page where the human body is illustrated. You can use the days the almanac lists for castration in their astrological time-table, but I prefer to go by the Moon's Place in the Astrological Zodiac. Here
are the dates we use when we are having a horse castrated or any type of operation performed on our horses, our pets and ourselves!
